Antusiasme Relawan AIL dalam Belajar Bahasa Isyarat

AIL Volunteers' Enthusiasm for Learning Sign Language

In order to improve the implementation of inclusive education at Airlangga University, the Directorate of Education, through one of its units, Airlangga Inclusive Learning (AIL), held a training session for volunteers who assist students with special needs (MBK). The training was held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Sriwijaya Hall, ASEEC Tower Building, Campus B, Airlangga University. In addition to covering topics on inclusive education and ethics in mentoring, the training featured an engaging session on learning sign language led by Ika Irawan from the Bisindo and Accessibility Surabaya Team (TIBA).

The sign language introduction session by Ika Irawan, fondly known as Pak Wawan, began with education on the ethics of assisting people with hearing disabilities. Pak Wawan, who is deaf, delivered his presentation in sign language, accompanied by an interpreter. The presentation was accompanied by a video showing how to communicate with people with hearing disabilities. AIL volunteers paid close attention to the material with enthusiasm. There was also a question and answer session after the presentation.

Next, the training participants were given material on sign language. In this session, Mr. Wawan introduced sign language for the alphabet from A to Z. AIL volunteers and training participants were enthusiastic about imitating and carrying out Mr. Wawan's instructions in learning sign language. The activity ended with a round of applause from all training participants. The volunteers' enthusiasm was also demonstrated through their willingness to learn more sign language. "We hope that there will be another sign language learning activity for AIL volunteers. Not only is it important, but I also think that learning sign language is fun. By learning sign language, we can communicate with our deaf friends, so that we can create an inclusive society," said Fadhilah Larasati, one of the AIL volunteer training participants.
