Towards a Disability-Friendly Campus: AIL UNAIR Comparative Study to UB
AILNews, Malang, 17 September 2025, Airlangga Inclusive Learning (AIL) Universitas Airlangga conducted a comparative study at the Disability Service Center of Universitas Brawijaya. The agenda included a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and sign language classes to enrich knowledge, share good practices, and strengthen the commitment to creating an inclusive campus.
During the FGD session, both campuses mapped out the challenges of disability services, ranging from room accessibility, training needs for lecturers and educational staff, to the availability of disability-friendly learning resources. The discussion resulted in a number of practical steps: the development of tiered training modules, cross-unit collaboration, service operational standards, and the development of technology-based innovations.

In the follow-up session, facilitators from Brawijaya University led a sign language class. UNAIR volunteers learned basic vocabulary, greetings, and simulated conversations. This activity equipped volunteers with accessible communication skills for students with hearing disabilities, making service interactions more inclusive.
This comparative study affirms a shared commitment to expanding access to equitable education. In line with the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) and the SDGs, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), the UNAIR–UB collaboration is expected to continue through the exchange of modules, joint workshops, and service consultation channels.

With the spirit of Excellence with Morality, UNAIR affirms its commitment to fair and beneficial inclusive education. This comparative study was concluded with an agreement on follow-up actions: the development of training modules for lecturers and teaching staff, the strengthening of SOPs for accessible services, and a schedule for joint workshops between UNAIR and UB in the current semester. These steps are expected to accelerate the achievement of Tridarma and SDGs (4 & 10) on campus.
